TRACY, Calif. – May 22, 2023 – Emerson Christopher of Chico was selected as the 2023 Dairy Princess for the California Milk Advisory Board’s (CMAB) District 3 in a crowning event on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
Emerson will represent District 3, which includes Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, and Yuba counties. As Dairy Princess, she will play a key role on the CMAB’s Communications Services team in meeting community relations objectives.
Emerson is the daughter of Lesley and the late Eric Christopher. She is a junior at Chico High and has been volunteering for the California Women in Agriculture for the last 8 years educating school aged children on the dairy industry with Buttercup the Cow. Emerson has been a member of her local 4-H group for the last 8 years where she has raised pigs, goats, and chickens. She has been a club officer for her 4-H group and is serving her second year as a county ambassador. Emerson has been a member of her school’s Future Farmers of America program for the last 3 years where she has served as both a chapter and regional officer. Emerson is also involved with the National Charity League and the HoneyBee Discovery Center.
Crowned 1st Alternate Dairy Princess, Beverly Wilson, the daughter of Robert and Marsha Wilson, has her own herd of dairy cattle and shows dairy cattle at the local county fair. Beverly is a Sophomore at Corning Union High School and is involved with the Corning Future Farmers of America program where she serves as committee chairman. She is a member of the Tehama 4-H club, the Olive 4-H club, and the El Camino 4-H club. Beverly is also involved with the City of Corning Recreation Center playing basketball and softball.
Beverly will assist the new District 3 Dairy Princess in her duties, which include speaking on behalf of the California dairy industry to various audiences throughout the year.
As Dairy Princess and Alternate, Emerson and Beverly will attend a professional development training focused on presentation skills, advocating for the California dairy industry, leadership, and business etiquette.
Candidates were judged on speaking ability, education, dairy background, poise, and personality. Judges for the contest were Kris Costa, Colleen Cecile, and Jessica Trammel.
